Susan’s career has focused on advancing sustainable and responsible investing. For more than 17 years she was a Director of Shareholder Advocacy at Trillium Asset Management. Individually and in collaboration with partners she engaged with corporate leaders on a range of critical environmental, social and governance issues. She initiated dialogues and filed shareholder proposals that resulted in successfully negotiated agreements addressing chemical footprinting, environmental justice, human rights, and diversity, equity and inclusion policies and practices. In 2019, on behalf of Trillium clients she filed the first shareholder proposal requesting a report from a major consumer company on its efforts to reduce its chemical footprint.
Susan first joined Trillium in 1986 as portfolio assistant to the firm’s founder, Joan Bavaria. Later promoted to investment manager and equity analyst, she worked for over fourteen years with individuals and non profits seeking to use invested assets to meet financial goals and achieve social impact. Susan left Trillium to pursue a long held interest in education and led religious programs at her local church. She rejoined Trillium and its shareholder advocacy team in 2006.
Susan began her career in portfolio operations at Harvard Management Company.
She has served on several boards including the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility; Pesticide Action & Agroecology Network, North America and The Thirty Percent Coalition. Susan received her B.A. from Middlebury College, passed the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA Institute) Level I Exam and earned a Master’s Degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
